Coach Development

The YRSA, through the Technical Department, offers a comprehensive coaching development program to help our coaches continually upgrade their skills and qualifications. Primarily, this involves the co-ordination of the OSA's coaching certification program but also includes enhanced clinics to provide for specialized training.

Mentor Coach Development Program

The YRSA runs a coach development program to assist club coaches gain more knowledge and experience in youth coaching. The mentor coaches are selected annually through an application process. The coaches selected work closely with the YRSA technical staff designing practice, implementing practice, preparing players for competition and working with the players during competition. They are also exposed to top quality GK coaching and the selection criteria for the players who are identified. Advice and practical information is also provided for the coaches as they progress through the OSA and CSA licensing programs.

The Coaching Pathway and LTPD Through Education

The NEW Canadian Soccer Association’s LTPD Coaching Education Pathway is separated into two (2) coaching streams:

There are NO pre-requisites to enter the Community Sport Stream (complete the stage related course you are coaching in). ALL coaches must enter at the B Pre-Test level to proceed within the Excellence Stream

STAGES With LTPD as the guide, the OSA Coaching Department has launched new online resources for coaches working at all levels of the game in Ontario.

Under CSA leadership, LTPD now supports the framework for high-quality programs that ensure enjoyable lifelong playing opportunities for players of all levels of ability.

Coaches can enter the pathway at any level ie, a coach who is coaching 7 year olds can start their coach development at Stage 2, FUNdamentals.

Unlike the previous program there is no requirement to take Stage 1, Active Start. Coaches can now take courses directly related to the needs of the players they coach.

The LTPD diagram shows how the OSA Coach Development programs align with the CSA's Long Term Player Development Pathway.
